Paul Shuler, the President/CEO of Sunnbuilders out of Mobile, Alabama met with the "sustainability committee" of a major resort near Orlando, Florida this past Monday. The committee approved the installation of Solar Attic Fans on the roofs of eight of it's two bedroom villas. All eight of these units are tied to the same power meter. The committee will compare the usage from last summer as well as usage of the adjacent units in order to calculate the savings and the length of time that it will take for the solar attics fans to begin paying dividends over and above the cost of installation. If the data is favorable the company will be installing solar attic fans on the roofs of over 800 units. The fans are equipped with a solar panel and require no electricity to run them. The fan runs when the sun hits the solar collector and shuts down when the sun goes down.
"These two bedroom villas are currently without any attic fans to remove the hot air out of the attic" says Paul Shuler. "I predict that the savings on cooling these units will be substantial enough to afford a quick payback on the investment needed to install them, especially due to the very hot summers in Florida. Our fans carry a 25 year warranty and would mean many years of saving energy, saving money, and improving our planet. This is a win-win situation for everybody. Sunnbuilders will be installing the first eight fans within the next two weeks. The data will be collected and measured during the hot summer months, which is also the busy season for the Orlando area.
